As an artist, I’ve often found myself working in solitude, lost in my creative world with only my thoughts (and maybe my pets) for company. While this can be a peaceful and rewarding experience, it can also feel isolating—especially when you don’t have friends who share your passion for art. The lack of someone to bounce ideas off, discuss techniques with, or simply share the highs and lows of the creative journey can be challenging. That’s why I decided to start an arts and crafts social group—a space where local artists, makers, and art enthusiasts can connect, collaborate, and support one another.

The Power of Community in the Creative World Art is often seen as a deeply personal and introspective pursuit, but creativity thrives in community. Being around other artists helps broaden your awareness of different styles, mediums, and perspectives. It’s inspiring to see how others approach their work, and it can spark new ideas in ways you might not expect.

Our group meets regularly to:

✅ Share knowledge & techniques – Whether it’s a new painting method, a favourite supplier, or insights on selling art, there’s always something to learn from each other.

✅ Attend events & gallery exhibitions together – Going to art shows with like-minded people makes the experience richer, offering new perspectives and discussions.

✅ Collaborate on projects – Sometimes, the best ideas come from working together on something bigger than ourselves.

✅ Support & motivate each other – Creative slumps happen, and imposter syndrome is real. Having a network of fellow artists who understand the struggles can be incredibly encouraging.

More Than Networking – It’s About Belonging Yes, networking is a huge benefit of being part of an art community, but more than that, it’s about building friendships with people who genuinely understand the creative life. Whether you’re a professional artist, a hobbyist, or just someone who appreciates art, having a group to share your journey with makes all the difference. Starting this group has already brought so much inspiration and connection into my life, and I’m excited to see where it leads. If you’ve ever felt isolated in your creative pursuits, I highly encourage you to find or create a local art community—it can truly transform your experience. Are you part of an art group or looking for one? I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments!
