The Story Behind Explore with Joanie

The Explore with Joanie Art Packs were inspired by one very special little girl – my daughter, Joanie.

As an artist and a mum, I have spent countless hours painting at home, and from the moment she was old enough to hold a paintbrush, Joanie wanted to join in. Whenever I sit down to create, she wants to create too. Some of my favourite moments are the ones we've spent side by side, painting, drawing, and talking about the animals we love.

Like me, Joanie is fascinated by wildlife. Whether we're spotting birds in the garden, visiting animals at a wildlife park, or reading stories about creatures from around the world, nature sparks her curiosity and imagination. Watching her excitement and eagerness to learn inspired me to create something that would help other children experience that same sense of wonder.

That's why I created the Explore with Joanie Art Packs and named them after her. They combine two things that are very close to our hearts: creativity and a love of animals.

As a parent, I also understand the challenge of finding meaningful activities that encourage children to step away from screens and engage their imagination. These packs are designed to provide hands-on creative experiences that inspire curiosity, learning, and exploration through art.

Each pack introduces children to amazing animals and the natural world while supporting areas of the primary school curriculum, including art, science, geography, literacy, and environmental awareness. I believe that if we want future generations to care for and protect wildlife, we first need to help children connect with it. When children learn about animals, understand their importance, and develop a sense of wonder about nature, they are more likely to grow into adults who value and protect our planet.

I am also passionate about making creativity accessible to all children. Art builds confidence, encourages self-expression, develops important skills, and provides opportunities for children to learn in ways that are engaging and enjoyable. Every child deserves access to arts and crafts, regardless of their background or experience.

The Explore with Joanie Art Packs are more than just craft activities. They are an invitation to explore, create, learn, and discover the incredible world around us—just as Joanie and I do together every day.
